Suburb Overview

Glenhaven is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 32 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of The Hills Shire, part of the Hills District region.

The area was originally called Sandhurst, which remains Glenhaven's most prominent and highest street, Sandhurst Crescent. There was some confusion with mail because of a suburb in Melbourne with the same name. A public meeting was held in 1894 to have the name changed to reflect its valley location. The upper portion of the valley was known as "The Glen", and the lower portion as "The Haven", hence the choice Glenhaven.

Sandhurst Post Office opened on 11 July 1892 and was renamed Glenhaven on 1 January 1893. It closed in 1972.

Glenhaven has two schools, Glenhaven Public School located in Glenhaven Rd and founded in 1889, and Lorien Novalis School for Rudolf Steiner Education.

Buses run every hour to Castle Hill, a train line has been proposed for 2017.

As of the ABS census in 2001, the population was 5,595 people: 2,742 males, 2,853 females. This comprises approximately 4.0% of the Shire's total population. The population of Glenhaven grew by 9.6% from 1996 to 2001.
